This site is dedicated to research into the GODSLAND family name. Its purpose is to gather information about people with this name in order to extend the family tree and its database, which at present includes over 1040 names. The study also includes the names GOSLAND and GOSSLAND and other variants and misspellings of the name. This research is registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

The majority of people with the name GODSLAND can be shown to have come from North Devon, particularly the area around Morchard Bishop. In earlier times the name often appears as GOSLAND (and sometimes GOSSLAND) in the parish registers. This produces an added complication in that there are also GOSLAND and GOSSLAND families in Scotland particularly in the Glasgow area. This latter group are not connected in any way with the Devon GODSLAND families but they are nevertheless also being researched as part of the One-Name Study.

New information on any of these families is always welcome. I would also welcome copies or scans of any birth, marriage or death certificates which you may have as well as other relevant documents such as parish register entries, wills etc. Please email or write to me using the contact tab above.

GODSLANDS are now scattered about the globe. If you are one, or related to one, your ancestry may be traced through the family trees provided here. Try the Dynamic Family Tree or the Data page which contains indexes to GODSLAND birth, marriage and death entries as well as Will indexes and census entries. If you are unable to find a connection to your family, please contact me with details of your known ancestors and I will try to establish a link.
